A Clinician’s Guide to Weight Inclusive Research: What to Know and How to Apply It

Self Study Training on Weight Science Research

This self-study workshop is offered via recordings only.

Learn to apply weight-inclusive principles to reading scientific literature and learn confidence-boosting strategies for applying this to your clinical practice.

Have you ever heard someone say “You can make research say whatever you want?” That’s only true if you don’t know how to analyze it.

In an age when a lot of weight-science research is industry-funded and/or conducted by people with significant conflicts of interest, those of us who hope to understand and/or provide ethical, evidence-based care must be able to read the research with a critical eye.

Did you forget everything you learned in Statistics 101?!

In this special workshop, Ragen will walk you through how to read weight-science research with a particular focus on eating disorder specific publications. Marci will provide practical strategies for applying the scientific literature in clinical practice both with clients and colleagues.

You will leave this workshop with greater confidence in reading the scientific literature accurately so you can feel greater confidence providing and advocating weight-inclusive care.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe common statistics and terminology issues in weight-science research
  • Identify and examine conflicts of interest among study authors and funders
  • Critique data collection methods
  • Interpret statistical analyses
  • Describe how academic research is applied in clinical practice
